These guys are truly great contractors and we feel lucky to have found them and that they were able to fit us in to their project schedule. Wolfram (the owner) and his long-time partner Danny do all of the work themselves, the two of them side-by-side every day. They are definitely “old-school” perfectionist builders, with true pride of workmanship that you just don’t find much of any more. They are extremely reliable, taking on only one project at a time, which means they show up every day so you DON’T have to worry about them working some days and disappearing for days or more. In the 2 months they were on our project, only twice did Wolfram have to leave a little early in the afternoon and he told us beforehand so we were never left to wonder. They are very punctual. Danny drives up each morning at 7:45am on the dot. Wolfram arrives at 8:00am and they get right to work. They eat lunch on-site and work typically until 4pm. They clean the work site before they leave each day so it is always looking neat. They work quickly but without compromising quality. On the finer details, Wolfram pays exceptional attention. I watched him spend nearly an hour measuring and cutting certain tiles on our backsplash wall niche until it met his standard for perfection, and then he set them in place. They have been doing this work for a long time and they know what they’re doing- you can tell from the work product. Wolfram is honest, and does NOT try to nickel and dime you. If any unexpected issues do come up, Wolfram suggests possible solutions based on his lifetime experience and what he would do it it was his own home. Best of all, they are trustworthy. We gave them a key to our home to come and go while we were at work even with our dog and cat at the house. They locked up each day just as they would for their own home. WM Remodeling is a rare find- you do get what you pay for with these guys (which is piece-of-mind and old world perfection!)

He came when he said he would. Finished in the time frame he predicted. The few things we added as we went along were charged fairly. He considered our wishes rather talk us into doing what is easier. Our expectations were that we were hoping for good, we got great. Our friends and family [not only us] are amazed at the exact match of the cabinets in appearance and stain, ditto for the floor. We have oak cabinets with medium – dark stain. The grain and colors were matched perfectly. The cabinet doors were built exactly the way the older cabinet doors were. You cannot tell the new door or drawer face from the old ones. We look at the kitchen in amazement. My prediction that the food won’t taste any better is probably true but it is definitely a joy to be in. We have more elbow room and natural light. The pass through from kitchen to dining room gives you a view to the French doors leading to our stone patio and back yard.

Description of work:

Our kitchen was in need of updating. We purchased new appliances/fixtures: refrigerator, stove cook top / hood, sink and faucets and under cabinet lighting. WM Remodeling did a fantastic job. We kept our old [but in good condition] cabinets. Two of the cabinets were moved to another wall to make space for a pass through to the dining room. Where the two cabinets were removed, Wolfram built 2 cabinets with EXACT stain tones and EXACT door and drawer faces. The cabinets were built to my desires. One with 4 drawers and the other 2 drawers and cabinet below [with a pull out drawer]. The job included electrical outlets, switches and phone jack installation. We had a vinyl floor. This was replaced with hardwood [oak] floor and joined the wood into the dining room floor. I finished the floors when we moved in about 14 years ago [sanded and polyurethane]. Wolfram matched this EXACTLY. My wife and I are not push-overs with details. He had already thought about things we did not. The granite counters were installed by an outside vendor but we were able to use our sink up to the night before the granite was installed. He cut our old counter and left it in place so we could still use the kitchen. He installed the stove [we have propane tank in yard] with cut off. He installed the sink drains [2]and faucet. We have a toe kick heater [his idea] added under the cabinets that were relocated; there was base-board heating there. The hood needed a new register, he provided that [he could have used the old one]. We bought 1″ x 2″ slate tiles [on 1 foot square mesh] for the back splash. The installation was perfect and the grout lines are like a ceramic pro’s. We had one week without power [Halloween snow storm] and he did not hassle us. Wolfram and his main man Danny were perfect gentlemen, professional and amazing craftsman at all levels. Not only do we recommend them we hope to be ready in the spring for one of our bathrooms. His price came in less than other estimates and he did things that they would not or could not.

I am so happy with the work Wolfram and Danny completed. Wolfram is easy to work with and both he and Danny are very respectful and pleasant. I particularly appreciate that Wolfram was open and honest with me about the particulars of the project and his availability. I thought I would have to replace the whole window since the frame was so badly rotted away but they said they could use the existing window and just replace the window frame. This advice saved me a lot of money. When he came for the estimate, he let me know that he was working on a large project that may take a few weeks to complete before he could start my project. He ended up being able to come earlier but I appreciate that he wasn’t the kind of guy who would take the job and only work on it here and there when he got the chance. Even though the job I needed done was a small one, he treated it the same as a larger project. I would highly recommend Wolfram and Danny and look forward to working with them on future projects.

Wolfram and Denny have done three major projects for us – last year they did our master bathroom, including moving the plumbing and fixtures around and this year they remodeled our main bathroom and our laundry room. In both instances, my wife and I have been exceptionally happy with the work, the professionalism and the end product (which is why we are, and will be, repeat customers). But to me the most impressive things are always the little things… one day I was home and noticed a bathroom (not the one they were working on) had a runny toilet. as I heard it, so did wolfram, and he was also in the bathroom investigating why it had the issue. Before I could say anything, he already diagnosed the issue and mentioned he’d get the replacement part to fix it. I couldn’t believe that he took the time to go away from his project to improve the overall functioning of the house! And this wasn’t the only general improvement he did. Wolfram and Denny were on time every morning, starting at 745, and were impeccably clean. They stuck to their project outline and agreed cost. There was never a discussion of a “surprise” that elevated the cost of the project like with other contractors. And they take my dog out during the day when I’m not home! (She loves them). I recommend wolf and Danny to everyone I know.

I have used Wolfram Merz in the past for repairs to my Central Air Conditioner System and re-roofing part of my house. He did a quality job in all aspects. So, in 2018, when a tornado ripped up a 70 foot Oak tree from six feet away and tossed it onto my home office extension (while I was in it), damaging the roof and three rooms, I called Wolfram to ask if he could be the General Contractor to manage the $29,000+ repairs specified by my Insurance company. I had never managed such a complex job before between the Insurance and Mortgage company and all the specialists that would be needed. The complexity of dealing with so many different agencies and contractors just made me so stressed out that I would have to sign in to the “Home.” Wolfram said he could manage all that and serve as my General Contractor. He did just that. He stepped in and spoke with all the parties and reduced my stress level by 90%. I was thrilled with having such a wise and knowledgeable person in charge. He was always prompt, had first-class associates helping him do the work and in about two weeks did a perfect job and left the property super clean. The Insurance Inspector came, walked around, smiled and took pictures and within three weeks I had a check for full payment from the insurance company. Wow! Wolfram is at the top of all my lists for a wide variety of home repairs. -G

WM Remodeling has done truly first-rate work on every occasion. They can do any sort of work on a house, from start to finish. They also do all of their own work; they don’t subcontract any of the work, so you are always dealing directly with the company, and there is never a problem with having to wait for a subcontractor to do its part. In addition, they are great at dealing with the kinds of issues that always seem to come up with major renovations. WM is also extremely responsive. My husband and I both work, and WM has always been entirely available to speak with us about what they are doing at our house, whether during the day or in the evenings Finally, WM is absolutely reliable and honest We have never hesitated to allow them access to get into our house while we are out at work. We trust them totally. Suffice it to say that we are very demanding, and we would never have stayed with them if they hadn’t done a great job and been terrific to deal with throughout these 25 years.

The original estimate was $27000. It ran close to $30000. That was the cost for him. We have to buy the granite and the shower enclosure. It went very well. Wolfram is extremely professional. He is old school German. He is very detail oriented and very easy to work with. I kind of sensed that in him when he did the bid and came in. I had 5-6 people bid on this. I picked him just on my sense that he was a very detail oriented professional. I was right. I think I picked well on this one. He was not the cheapest by quite a bit. He wasn’t the most expensive either. He was almost the most expensive. I went with him anyway because it was a big job. He was looking to do a good job and not a quick sloppy get it done and go on to the next job. He was somebody that really cared about the result. I could tell that he took pride in the result. It wasn’t just the job to be done with. My wife and I had not probably thought this out to the degree we did. So there were decisions that had to be made along the way that he helped us with. He was very good with that. It was nice. He was good to work with. He had a partner, Danny. Every day at 8 o’ clock, they were here for two months. They would leave between 5 and 6. I even had neighbors comment asking who these guys were. They said that they had hired contractors and sometimes they don’t show up or they show up at 2 o’ clock. We have never seen somebody in this kind of a job show up every day at exactly the same time. I would absolutely use them again in the future. I interviewed probably six guys and had them come through. I knew this one was going to be a couple of months and that these people are in our house. So I put a little more effort into this one. I picked this guy just on gut feel. He came across exactly as he turned out to be. He was a consummate German technician who was very focused and very detail oriented. He was great.

After interviewing and obtaining estimates from several highly recommended contractors, I signed a contract with Wolfram Merz for this bathroom remodeling job around the beginning of May 2013 on the understanding that he would not be available to start work for several months. Although Wolfram’s estimate was not the lowest (or the highest I thought he would do the best job and provide the most value for the money Among other things, Wolfram was the only remodeler to provide drawings at this initial discussion stage, which was extremely helpful since the job not only involved the conversion of a bathtub to a large shower, but the enlargement of the bathroom by moving a wall adjoining a large walk-in closet Wolfram patiently reworked the drawings several times to reflect my comments, suggestions and concerns, and impressed me with his extensive knowledge, experience, and attention to detail.

It was well worth waiting in line for the work to begin. Wolfram does all of the work himself with the help only of his assistant of 14 years (Danny, who is himself an accomplished craftsman). The job was a gut renovation, involving, among other things removal of the existing bathtub, vanity, floor and wall tiles (including sheetrock); removal and re framing of a partition wall adjacent to a walk-in closet; plumbing work for new vanity, shower and toilet; electrical work for new light fixtures, ceiling exhaust fan, outlets and light switches; installation of a new subfloor; installation of a drain for a curbless shower area (suggested by Wolfram); installation of a custom shower seat and knee wall; installation of new water resistant sheetrock; installation of floor and wall tiles throughout; installation of additional ceiling light over shower and of an exhaust fan/light /heat combination fixture vented through the attic and roof; installation of a new cast iron steam baseboard radiator; and, installation of a new vanity, sink, faucets, shower fixtures, toilet, medicine cabinet, and accessories (towel bars and hooks, shelving, soap dishes, toilet paper holder, etc. Once work begin, Wolfram (and Danny) were extremely punctual, arriving each and every weekday at 8:00 am (you could set your clock by it) and working until at least 4 pm (bringing their lunch with them). The work was meticulously done, as Wolfram is a real craftsman and a perfectionist. There were unforeseen issues and problems, as might be expected for a house that was built in 1935 and a bathroom that had not been upgraded for decades. Wolfram always consulted me when appropriate before making any decisions on issues that arose during the course of the work and, for the most part, did not charge extra to deal with unexpected problems. Wolfram did not simply raise problems, but always seemed to find or propose a solution. As one small example, when the shower arm that had come with a high-end shower head seemed a bit short to be comfortable where it was to be installed, Wolfram found a perfect replacement online that night and, with my approval and thanks, had it overnighted for installation the next day. All of the work done was of the highest quality imaginable, and Wolfram was at all times a pleasure to work with. He always seemed to have a suggestion when asked, but was never overbearing; and would gently and politely let you know if something you wanted him to do might be problematic. As a testament to the quality of the work, I have not had to call Wolfram once in the six months since the job was completed. I expect that my next call to Wolfram will be for the remodeling of my downstairs bathroom.

Wolfram did a superb job on all aspects of the contracted work. His knowledge of the correct way to construct a home is exceptional. His workmanship on the deck was first-rate. His remodeling work in the bathrooms was first-rate. The new railing above the porch and the dormer trim work look terrific. The garage door is back to normal. Wolfram has one standard, do the work correctly, price it fairly and always behave professionally. I simply can’t say enough good things about his work or what a pleasure he is to deal with. On several occasions he identified a problem with the original construction of my home and suggested a solution. I always felt that his advice was strictly honest and that his corrective work was fairly priced. If you want to work with a consummate professional who can do first rate work on any home remodeling effort, look no further.

Description of work:

Replaced deck and railing on large exterior deck. Rebuilt stairs. Replaced trim work on 3 dormers. Replaced railing above front porch. Re-tiled 3 bathrooms. Rebuilt several walls that were out of alignment. Installed glass half partitions in two showers. Replaced 2 vanity tops. Installed new shower hand / hand sprayer in MBR. Corrected problem with MBR shower pan. Replaced one section of garage door.

This was actually a project we wanted to start a few years ago but never got around to it. We saw WM Remodeling on Angie’s list a few months after we became members and having used this company years ago for a basement renovation, we immediately called the owner to give us an estimate. We received three other estimates and WM Remodeling’s estimate was by far the most reasonable. We also knew the owner would be doing the work which was a great plus for us. If any problems arose, we knew he would be here to address them and talk them over with my husband and me. Fortunately there were no problems and over the course of 2-3 weeks the owner and his employee moved from room to room taking out the old windows and installing the new ones. They took care to cover carpeting and wood floors and protect our furniture. The entry door was a little trickier because of the glass windows that had to be replaced around the doors but that too was accomplished without any problems. We have noticed a difference in heating bills since this work was done and there are no more drafts in the foyer from the old windows and old door. The owner’s recommendation for the bedroom windows – Marvin windows – was excellent and we love the way they look (also easy to clean). After this job was accomplished we hired WM Remodeling for two more projects in 2010. I am posting reports for these two other projects (hallway renovation in April 2010 and master bath remodeling in fall 2010)

Description of work:

Replacement of all windows in bedrooms with Marvin windows, replacement of entryway door and exterior thermal door and replacement of various “nonstandard size” double pane windows in foyer and living room.

The owner, Wolfram Merz, gave us an estimate that was on target and while unexpected problems did arise during the course of the six week project, he had the solutions. What we like most about WM Remodeling is the attention to detail and that the work is actually supervised and performed by the owner of the company. WM Remodeling was also available to work around the few subcontractor we had to rely on (mirror and glass; shower doors etc) and they were always on time and professional.

Description of work:

This was not the first time WM Remodeling did work at our house and it will not be the last. This project involved a complete renovation of a master bath and a build out of two separate closets including a walk-in closet. .

Every job has been outstanding! The quality of materials, quality of work, professionalism, neatness and punctuality. They are totally trustworthy and a pleasure to have in our home. Due to their outstanding work, they sometimes can’t start work right away, but are up front about that and will begin as soon as possible. They are always worth waiting for.

Description of work:

WM Remodeling has done many jobs for us from kitchen renovation (including building new wooden cabinets & installing appliances) to waterproofing our basement. Most recently they installed central A/C for the entire house, the new kind for houses without ductwork, at a cost of $14,000. Immediately after that was completed, they replaced 19 interior doors, removing old flat hollow doors and installing solid, raised panel doors with top quality brass hardware. In addition they did several smaller jobs throughout the house while they were on site. They have also replaced all the old windows in our house.

America needs more people like Wolfram. He has worked for me on several jobs described above. The largest job was the deck which is about 600 square feet. He worked from architectural drawings that were not complete. He figured out all the details that the architect didn’t. Construction techniques are the best. No shortcuts. The deck feels like the Rock of Gibraltar. He has completed other projects for me like re-tiling a bathroom which included minor wall alterations, rehanging doors and attaching hardware. Also, dealt with HVAC ductwork issues and plumbing problems. If he doesn’t know how to do something, he thoroughly researches it and then tells you how to resolve the issues. Wolfram was always as courteous, punctual and professional as a person could be.

Wolfram is consistently reliable with the work he performs. He is always on site to oversee all the construction and installation. He shows up on time every day until the job is done. If for some reason he is delayed, he always let’s you know beforehand. The mess he creates during the day is always cleaned up before he leaves at night. He is careful with every aspect & detail of the project as he himself wants to see it completed perfectly. His estimates were never exceeded unless we discussed the addition of an item or project. Most days he was left alone in the home. He let himself in most mornings and saw himself out in the evenings. He completes the job in the estimated period of time that he figures it will take. Additionally, if a problem comes up after the completion of the job, he has always come by to provide the fix. I should mention that he worked with well with our decorators.

Description of work:

Removed old wood kitchen floors and installed new tile. Installed new Central Air Conditioning system in entire home. Installed new recessed lighting in Kitchen & Living Room. Gutted living room and custom designed & constructed built in cabinets over 2 entire walls. Installed new recessed lighting and reconfigured & installed new Anderson windows. Rebuild fireplace ledge and double sliding door landing. Roof: Removed old roof and replaced with completely new roof. Also installed soffits around the entire house as well as removed and installed 2 new electrical skylights. Installed new swing doors and spindles on entire deck.
